My name is Emily, and I'll admit it: I'm a video game addict. So when I found out I won the Xbox Global Crew contest featured on CosmoGirl.com, you know I was ecstatic! My prize included a trip to New York City, an Xbox gaming console, a ton of games and a digital camera. I'd never been to New York before this trip, so that was the clincher for this amazing surprise. Once all the travel information was set straight, I was set and ready to go, hardly knowing how amazing this was going to be. After a long flight, including a plane transfer in Atlanta, we arrived in New York City, and I was instantly shocked. I'd never seen so many people in my life! After a day of sightseeing then some well-deserved rest, the day came for the Xbox 360 Gen Next event. Microsoft created this event to showcase their newest and most popular games. For me, the best parts were the tour around the event before anyone else got there, five hours in a room full of video games, meeting other gaming teens, and eating the delicious finger foods. After a long 'jam session' on Rock Band 2, I was coaxed away to take another tour around the room, this time with Rose and Laura (both web interns) from CosmoGirl.com. Then I interviewed Heather, a director from Xbox. She told me this whole event took about 4 months to pull together. I just want to thank CosmoGirl and Microsoft for this wonderful opportunity and to the good people at Xbox, if you ever need a game tester you know where to find me.
Love her or hate her, Britney is back and she’s out for the kill to reclaim her title of pop princess. She took a stab at a comeback last year, but it fizzled out. Her singles like “Gimme More” and “Piece of Me” were overshadowed by her uninspired 2007 VMA performance, even more uninspired music videos (anyone remember that cartoon for “Break the Ice?”) and even crazier personal life. Running across the border with a paparazzo? Shaving her head? Well that’s all in the past and if you say she’s crazy, she’s got your crazy.
Winning 3 moon men at this years VMAs, Britney is starting to creep back onto the music scene…in a good way. Her crazy catchy new single “Womanizer” reached #1 from #96 on the Billboard Hot 100 list. This is her first single to do this since “…Baby One More Time.” It’s hard to believe considering how long she’s been around that she’s only had two singles reach number 1 on Billboard’s Hot 100 chart.
Vulnerable Britney is gone, and the strong, sexy Britney we all knew and love is back as she’s calling out the playboys of the universe for what they are: womanizers. We’ve all been there, falling for that super charming player when you know he’s bad for you. Well Britney’s turning the tables on these womanizers with lyrics like “lollipop/must mistake me/ you’re a sucker/ to think that I/ would be a victim not another/ say it, play it how you want it/ but no way I’m ever gonna fall for you/never you baby.” “Womanizers” music video is reminiscent of the Britney of the past, leaving guys in her dust as she reminds them she’s never going to fall for them. Britney has been through a lot these past few years, and she’s finally trying to turn the tables and be known for her music instead of her latest tabloid headlines. Her 6th studio album, "Circus" is set for release December 2nd. Love or hate the song, Britney wants to remind the world that she’s here to stay.

If there's one thing Beyonce knows how to do it's make a funky cool music video! And that's no exception with her brand-new video for her first single, "If I Were a Boy" from her new album coming out on November 18th.
You've got to give it to Mrs. Jay-Z, the new video is pretty creative and does an awesome job at showcasing the double standards in a relationship and the song itself has a really new feel for her. I love the surprise ending of the video, I definitely didn't see that one coming! All-in-all, two cosmodude thumbs up for this new video from Beyonce!

Did anybody watch the Presidential Debates last night? What did you think of it? You know, if you’re under 18 years old, just because you can’t vote next month doesn’t mean you don’t have a voice — that’s what Usher says at least. The artist teamed up with Do Something to encourage the 18 and younger crowd to get involved in this election. You can check out his clip on the Usher’s New Look website. It’s nice seeing celebs campaigning for a good cause.
Are you a hellogoodbye fan? If so, you probably already know they are going on tour this fall starting October 23. But did you know that they are becoming more eco-friendly? The band’s actually made several changes recently, including the addition of new members Travis Head (bass), Ryan Daly (guitar) and Joe Marro (keyboards). Together they’re working on a couple new songs and riding in a veggie oil/bio-diesel van. If you’re going to catch their show, make sure you don’t miss the veggie BBQ meet and greets they’ll be doing beforehand!
Speaking of bands, if you’re in the LA area, make sure you check out Aly & AJ’s event at Universal CityWalk on October 11 where the sisters will be launching their new Girl Guitars for guitar video games. Rock out at the pubic event and win your chance to play Rock Band with the singers.

WHAT WAS IT LIKE TALKING TO COLLEGE STUDENTS ABOUT THE ELECTION DURING THE PRIMARIES?
It was amazing that these kids are just so well-informed and so interested. There were really obscure questions and debates that they wanted to lead — I couldn’t believe it! And it was amazing how many of these kids turned out. We made the environment friendly. I’m 23, and all of these kids are probably between 16 to 24. They’re my peers, so we can all talk on the same wavelength. We’re all connected by the same issues.
DO YOU FEEL LIKE CELEBRITY ENDORSEMENTS ARE JUST A NATURAL PART OF THE MEDIA SURROUNDING PRESIDENTIAL ELECTIONS?
In this day and age, the media has this 24-hour news cycle that they need to fulfill their obligation to. And it seems like celebrities are a huge part of that, so it just seems unavoidable. It’s important to bring to light certain issues. If this spotlight is already shining on me and I feel like there’s a worthwhile cause, then why not direct it toward that? I hope that my [involvement] encourages the youth population to go out and inform themselves.
DO YOU FEEL LIKE EQUALITY TRULY EXISTS IN OUR COUNTRY?
I think that we still live in a country that’s sexist and racist. Those are issues that we deal with whether we want to ignore it or not. Seeing how the media portrayed Hillary [Clinton] with unbelievable sexism — some of the things that people were saying were just so overwhelming. You just couldn’t believe the names that they were calling her! As much as I feel like there is this American Dream that is an equal opportunity to succeed, I don’t think that it is a reality. I’m not pessimistic, though. I think we have the potential to someday reach that.
SO IS IT TRUE THAT YOU GIVE YOUR BROTHER, HUNTER, ADVICE ON DATING?
You know what? It is true, actually. Who else has he got? I’m the first source, right? He gets a firsthand point of view from a girl his same age. I love it. I feel like it’s something nice that we can bond over.
WHAT’S THE FIRST THING THAT COMES TO YOUR MIND WHEN YOU HEAR THE WORD HAPPINESS?
Things that make me happy are being with my friends and family, and also things like a challenge — using my brain, you know? That makes me feel good. When I’m challenged and when I feel like I want to get to the bottom of something, when I’m engaged, that makes me happy. Being engaged in something or bettering myself in some way.

If you’re near New York and you loved Hairspray the movie, make sure you check out the musical before it’s too late. According to Playbill, Hairspray is likely to close its theatres doors in January. Although this version won’t star Zac Efron, but Harvey Fierstein, winner of the 2003 Tony Award for Best Actor, will be back some time between November and mid-January for the closing.
On the other side of the coast, more drama is stirring up on The Hills - but this time it’s between Audrina and Lauren. Perez is telling us that the two girls aren’t speaking too each other. Apparently a friend of Audrina’s on-again-off-again boyfriend Justin Bobby leaked to Audrina that Justin and L.C. hooked up! When they were confronted, Justin admitted to it while Lauren, obviously, denied it. What do you think?
In other couple news, congratulations to Step Up stars Channing Tatum and Jenna Dewan on their recent engagement! According to People, the actress is keeping the details on the proposal to herself, but she is definitely flashing her Neil Lane engagement ring around. I have to admit I’m pretty jealous, but the two do make a cute couple so congrats to them.

We told you that Heather Locklear got arrested for a DUI last weekend, but TMZ is now reporting that she was set up! Apparently she was being followed by a former US Weekly staffer, who is currently being investigated by the FBI for illegally downloading celebrity contact information. Supposedly, she called the cops and tipped off the paparazzi after she saw Heather get into her car even though there were no signs that Heather was under the influence. Actually, the breathalyser test confirms that the actress was not drinking and driving. So does this girl have something against Heather? Crazy story, huh? What do you think of it all?
In other crazy news, did you know there’s a family in Arkansas with 17 kids with another one on the way?! I just found out about them on Celebitchy. Apparently Jim and Michelle Duggar were on the Today Show yesterday, revealing that they are expecting their 18th child to be a girl. 16 of the 17 children still live with the parents, with their ages ranging from 1 to 20. Can you imagine having 17 siblings?

Since I am an English major and a hard core activist for reading and writing, I decided it would only be appropriate to attend my first New York Book Reading. I just happen to know an author, Brooke Parkhurst, of a new book "Belle in the Big Apple," and love the story line; it seemed like a perfect opportunity to make some connections with a publishing company and support my friends! The book is unique in that it mixes Southern hospitality and cooking, with the sites and sounds of New York City. Since I moved to the big city, there are very little reminders of home, besides the picture frames on my nightstand, cards from my parents, and my Florida sunshine inspired bedspread. However, "Belle in the Big Apple" brings back the smells and the traditions from home I will never forget while I am here. This clever beyond clever book also tells of Brooke's, or "Belle's" trials and tribulations, along with her successes and debuts, giving all of us who are starting out, hope and reassurance to keep following our dreams. Kudos to you Brooke!
The book reading took place last Monday at the Greenwich Village Barnes and Noble. Of course, my friend and I, always running late bounded up the stairs of the bookstore just to here the final clap, signaling the end of the reading. Seriously? I was so excited about my first book reading and we missed it. We proceeded to say hi to a friend and then stood in line to get our copy of the book autographed by Brooke. I spoke with the publicists and editors, getting an inside look at what it takes to land a career in the publishing world, as if I don't get a first hand look every day here at CosmoGirl! Beginning this month, "Belle in the Big Apple" will be touring the United States, including a good ole' Southern trip to Pensacola, Florida, just three hours from where I grew up!
As we are chasing after our dreams, we should never forget where we came from and how we got here. I will never forget my Southern roots while here, and will continue to use such things as book readings and writing to help me achieve my goals! What do you use as inspiration?

Shia LaBeouf has at least two things to be happy about today: his new movie, Eagle Eye, was released, and he’s not going to jail! The Transformer hottie will not be charged for his drunk-driving-related car accident that occurred last July because there was “insufficient evidence,” says a spokeswoman from the LA County District Attorney. There is a chance, though, that Shia will lose his license for up to nine months — a decision to be made by the DMV later today. Oh Shia, we still love you.
Rumor has it we’ll be seeing Sarah Michelle Gellar back on the TV screen. Variety is reporting that the former Buffy the Vampire Slayer star will be in an upcoming HBO series, The Wonderful Maladys, where she will play a character with “a kind of zealous immaturity – like a drug addict with a to-do list,” said screenwriter Charles Randolph. She is also expected on the big screen next year with two films. I’m glad she’s coming back, but where is that handsome husband of hers?! Do you miss SMG?
In other TV news, the Jonas Brothers will begin shooting their new show, JONAS on Monday, according to Access Hollywood. The boys will be playing the “Lucas” brothers, who live on “JONAS” Street, hence the name of the Disney Channel series. It won’t be out until Spring 2009, so we have a while to wait, but what do you think? How much of the Jonas Brothers will we see in the Lucas brothers? Are you excited?

Wow! That's the only word that comes to mind after watching Cassie's new video! I mean seriously can this girl get anymore fly? Not only is she drop-dead gorgeous, but her style is off-the-radar cool too!
Check out those Givenchy "Up the Leg" Gladiator boots that she's wearing in the beginning of the video and tell me you wouldn't spend an entire month's paycheck on those things! Well chances are if you did want those boots you would probably end up spending a month's worth of pay on them; the retail price on them is $1,700! Well the good folks over at Steve Madden have a pair of ankle heels that are really similar and aren't going to leave you broke!

All I can say is...it's about time Rihanna! Everyone's favorite fashionista finally confirms that she's working on a new clothing line!
We're all used to seeing Rihanna rock the hottest clothes and start some major hot trends with her unique sense of style, and now you'll finally be able to get a piece of it! According to New York Magazine, Rihanna revealed that she's definitely working on her debut clothing line...but there's also some bad news (brace yourselves ladies), don't be in a major rush to get your hands on some of the merchandise from the famed "good girl gone bad" because she plans on taking her time to make it perfect.
"I can't say when it will be released, but it's definitely going to happen," she told Women's Wear Daily. "I'm not one to rush into anything. I want to take my time."
Granted it may not be coming out in the immediate future, it's cool to see a genuine fashion icon like Rihanna starting to develop her own brand with her own designs. I mean seriously, who has cooler style than her these days? She's like the perfect blend of attitude, class, and sexiness all rolled into one bad-ass Barbados babe!

Contrary to other reports of a Chace/Drew hookup, Us Weekly tells us that in fact the 33-year-old actress was actually hooking up with his co-star, Ed Westwick. The three of them attended the Kings of Leon concert at Webster Hall last night and which Drew and Ed left together. The couple was also seen together over the weekend at the Saturday Night Live after party and then later in the night at Fat Cat Billiards with other members of the Gossip Girl crew. What do you think of this odd pairing?
Have you heard? Clay Aiken is a gay dad! The former American Idol told People in an exclusive interview that his newborn son inspired him to reveal the truth about his sexuality. “It was the first decision I made as a father. I cannot raise a child to lie or to hide things. I wasn’t raised that way, and I’m not going to raise a child to do that,” he said. Way to go, Clay!
And a quick update on my favorite Hollywood couple — Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt arrived in Berlin yesterday with their six kids. Rumor has it they might stay in Germany for about 90 days or even longer as Brad begins filming the new Quentin Tarantino movie, Inglorious Bastards, which also stars Diana Kruger and Mike Myers. I wonder when the happy couple will return to the States…
