New York Fashion Week Spring 2010: Academy of Art

Academy of Art is one of the best shows to see at New York Fashion Week because the designs displayed are those of hard-working students hoping to make it big at Bryant Park. The university has been around since 1929 and is the largest private art and design school in the U.S. Each year, some of the best and brightest are selected to show their designs at Fashion Week.

Celebrities love this show as much as we do, as America's Next Top Model's Miss Jay Alexander was front row center and Real Housewives of New York's Alex and Simon were seen! They seemed to be a crowd favorite as they were spotted blowing kisses to friends before taking their seats.

Six students showed their designs, each drawing inspiration from something completely different from one another. One designer paid tribute to Beverly Hills Housewife, showing models in all wool and vinyl, which gave them a slight go-go dancer edge.

We were fans of Richelle Valenzuela, who used lots of organza to make pleated pants and shirts with great movement. Designer Sawanya Jomthepmala got inspiration from glass mosaics from Thai Buddhist temples to use on her models, which was a nice, colorful change to the black and white we've been seeing all week.
