This past semester has been filled with late nights and early morningsif I get five hours of sleep, I consider it a good night. To get through the day, Ive been relying heavily on coffee, but Im afraid that Ive developed an addiction to caffeine.
Every morning, my alarm starts blaring at 5:30. I stumble out of bed and head straight to the kitchen to turn on my coffee maker. I cant even function until I have a cup. By 7, Im out of the house and on my way to school. On days when Im feeling especially tired (which is most days), I grab a second cup of coffee right before class and I finally start to feel awake. But around 3 in the afternoon, my energy crashes and I need another caffeine fix. And heres the scary partif I dont, then I start experiencing withdrawal symptoms. I get a pounding headache that wont go away until I have a little caffeine.
Ive never been like this before and it definitely scares me that Ive become so dependent upon caffeine. Im trying to break the habit but its so hard because if I dont drink coffee, I feel so exhausted and all I want to do is crawl back into bed.
Have you ever gotten hooked on caffeine? How did you break the habit?
