chuck & larry beats hairspray and harry potter

Wow! Instead of obsessing over the Hairspray movie or the Harry Potter book (yes, I was talking about the book, not the movie... thanks to those of you who clarified!)... I became obsessed with YOUR responses to my Daily Kiss blog yesterday! I was so intrigued by how passionate you guys were about both!

What did I end up doing? Listening to the Hairspray soundtrack while reading Harry Potter (needless to say, I'm only on page 246, but enjoying it...so please no spoilers- heehee!)!

But those of you who brought up the Harry Potter movie had a good point too! Which movie would top the box office? And you guys got me hooked on finding out. I kinda thought Hairspray was a surefire winner since it was new this week and Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix has been out since July 11. But guess what?! Neither of them won!

Instead, the #1 spot went to the Adam Sandler and Kevin James comedy, I Now Pronounce You Chuck & Larry!

Okay, I am a huge Adam Sandler fan (I think I've seen 50 First Dates more than 50 times!)... and was thrilled to get an invite to the red carpet premiere last Wednesday. I was so excited to be so close to Adam (but got too nervous to say anything- ha!). I mean, I had just seen Spanglish the weekend before-- and loved him more than ever!

Anyway, so I was dying to see this movie... but must admit, I was a bit disappointed. I just think all the funny parts have already been shown on the trailers! There's not much else left to it! I mean, I still enjoyed it because of Adam, but I'd probably put it on the bottom of my Sandler Must-See list.

And apparently it wasn't just me. The movie got bad reviews all around (...and I NEVER agree with critics!). I thought for sure Hairspray was a shoe-in for the top spot, but boy was I wrong! According to the estimates, Chuck and Larry is just edging out Harry Potter and Hairspray is coming in third.

That's not to say that Hairspray is a failure... it made $27 million, which in any other week would be amazing! I guess it's just that more of us are out to the movies this week!

So the box office ended up being:
#1-I Now Pronounce You Chuck & Larry
#2-Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix
#3-Hairspray

But I think my rankings would be more like this:
#1-Hairspray
#2-Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix
#3-I Now Pronounce You Chuck & Larry

What do you guys think? Anyone else see all three? If so, how would you rank them? And if not, which films did you catch this weekend?
