run for your lives—it's cloverfield!

Cloverfield is full of secrets!

Before this weekend's monster movie's title was even announced, there was a trailer with no title. All it said was 01.18.08, and somehow the release date ended up becoming a temporary title for the movie.

When we chatted with director Matt Reeves today at the Cloverfield junket, even he couldn't believe the amount of hype and buzz around the no-name movie at the time.

After months of anticipation, the title Cloverfield was finally confirmed a few weeks ago. But another part of the secret? The way that it was shot. For those of you who haven't seen it, the entire film is shot as if it's through the lens of an amateur just filming his friends. Very YouTube of them, huh?!

And what you get from that is an amazingly intimate adventure of six young people as they literally run for their lives away from of some unknown creature attacking New York City. We never get to find out what's really happening. We never get to see what the police are really doing about it. We never even get to see who exactly is being attacked! Literally all we see is from the point of view of one guy, Hud (played by the lovable T.J. Miller) who truthfully is not a very good cameraman!

Full disclosure here: I can't even watch shaky home videos, so the movie was a lot of wobbly camerawork to take in. I'll admit I did have to close my eyes through a big portion of it because I got so sick from it. But then again that's what made this movie so realistic, so interesting, and such a must-see. It's not like any movie you've seen before. And when the ending strikes, it strikes.

Yet do we ever find out what Cloverfield is? I've probably given away too much already, so I'll let you guys go see it and find out...
