bang up job

I have always looked up to my older cousins. I used to love watching them do their hair and I wanted to be just like them. They knew everything about looking fabulous!

I was about 10 years old when I decided that I really, really wanted barrel bangs. (You know, the ones that were rolled under and looked like the barrel of a curling iron?)

So there I was, in my mom's bathroom, with the scissors and a mental image of what my cousins' bangs looked like.

Snip, snip, snip and...

I totally butchered my bangs! They were uneven and shaggy and I cut them way too far above my eyebrows. But rather than disguising the mangled mess by pinning them back...

I began cutting the bangs at the root, thinking it would make them go away, until I had a patch of short spikes near the front of my head. I had to wear hats for a month or two to hide my mistake. To this day, I still won't cut my own hair.
