dishin' it out

One of the first things I did when I came to the city (other than gaze in wonder at the three story Forever 21 and hit up the frozen yogurt at 40 Carrots at Bloomingdales) was look for a summer job.

The dance team at Syracuse keeps my schedule too busy for a job, so the money I make during the summer months has to fund my school year spending… and my unhealthy shopping habit.

On the first night in our apartment in the city, my roomie and I couldn't sleep because of the noise from the restaurant across the street. I was frustrated at first (I'm a suburb girl - loud voices and car honks are not my usual lullaby) but then I realized that the restaurant would be the perfect place to work because it was so busy every night.

I applied the next morning and really had to be persistent in my follow-up. It felt like dating all over again… Is it too early to call? They should call me. Maybe their not interested?

Finally after countless phone calls, I got hired as a server. My first night was crazy to say the least. The place was packed with fans watching the NBA Finals, leaving me to squeeze through crowds carrying hot plates of food. My feet killed by the end of my nine-hour shift, but it was worth it.

I loved the adrenaline rush, and taking order after order made me feel like Hillary Duff in "A Cinderella Story" (now where's my Chad Michael Murray?).

When I snuggled into bed last night I welcomed the sounds of the bustling crowd across the street. Before it left me restless, but now it brings me sweet dreams of busy tables, big tips, and the perfect pedicure to treat my tired feet.
