Do You Feel Comfortable Without Wearing Makeup?

As my friends will tell you, I never leave my room with out makeup on. On several occasions, my friends have to hold the elevator for me while I apply one last layer of mascara to my eyelids before heading to brunch on Sunday morning.

While I’m being completely honest, I should admit that I wear makeup so often because I don’t think a cute guy would give me the time of day without it. But, a funny thing happened to me a few days ago…

I had just gotten home from work and I was starving (like usual), so I hopped over to the market to grab some dinner. I had gym shorts and a Penn State t-shirt on with my hair pulled back - compliments of a hair band AND head band - and I had no make up on, but how often is it that I run into someone I know in New York – who cares, right?

I was standing in line with my $12/lb. salmon when the guy behind me starting talking to me. I go to Penn State and people always ask me if I know their “friend who goes there,” but my campus has 40,000 students so I rarely do! We ended up talking a lot (it was a very long line), and at the end of our conversation he asked me out to dinner this weekend! I was so excited, and I couldn’t believe that after all the time I spend making sure my make up is perfect and my hair is straight, I got asked on a date when I hadn’t spent a moment getting ready.

It just goes to show that looks don’t always matter. I think most guys would agree that it’s better to date a funny, care-free girl than one who spends all of her time looking into a mirror. If you can feel good in your own skin and focus on your goals rather than looks, I think you can accomplish anything!
