great american bake sale

Baker's Dozen

When I was in second grade, my class held a bake sale. However, this was no ordinary, brownies and cupcakes galore bake sale. We were learning about culinary traditions in Appalachia, so our teacher thought we should have an “Okra and Cornbread” bake sale.

Word of advice—this is not a huge moneymaker. We probably made $10, and I ate cornbread for a week. But regular bake sales? One of my favorite things in the world. All of those home made goodies, and you know your money is going towards a good cause.

So what’s a good cause? 12.6 million children in America are hungry, and you can help. Talk to a teacher, community leader, coach, or your friends, and set up a bake sale. Then donate the money to The Great American Bake Sale and it will go directly to providing food for children. So you can have your cake—and they can eat, too! Cool, right? Let me know if you set up a sale, because we’d love to hear about the great stuff you're doing!

Crazy love!
