heat wave

August 9, 2006 at 7:30PM by Kathryn Beck |

So, you know during summer, how everyone's hair looks like they just came off the beach? Well, I tried to copy that look and had no success! It seems like it would be soo easy, but it might as well be rocket science to me. I decided that I needed to practice on someone else first in order to master the art of waving! (This is where my roommate, Sandy, comes into the picture. The crazy girl was more than happy to let me play hair stylist on her!)

It started out great. A little product here, a little product there. Emily (one of the beauty editors) told me about a trick called "product cocktailing" where you mix two different types of product together. I told Sandy, "This is what the pros are doing,"...and that I was a pro. Ha! Yeah right!! Then, I broke out the big dog—it was time to use the curling iron.

I'm not sure where I went wrong?! Maybe it was all the hairspray I used, or the teasing, or perhaps I just curled it too much. I was going for the whole bed-head, surfer chick look, but Sandy's hair looked more like she stuck her finger in an electrical socket!

Have any of you tried this look? Can you help those of us who are hairstyling-challenged? I can't wait to hear about your tips.

XOXO,
Kathryn, beauty intern
