Hey CosmoGIRL!s,
...Especially all of you songwriters who stay up late at night writing songs and playing your guitar, hoping you dont wake anybody upthis blog is for you. I want to tell you what I did last night. I saw a very intimate concert by the band Little Big Town. It was held in NYCs Soho area at a bookstore called Housing Works Café. Housing Works is a place that takes donations of clothes, books, and other cool things and resells them, then gives the money to help people affected by HIV/AIDS. Its a great organization that has locations all over New York City, and the vibe of the bookstore/café location is like a little bohemian lounge. And that was the scene for this awesome gigI cant call it a concert because it was so small and special, with only about 50 of us in the audience.
The bandthere are 4 main singers plus backup musiciansis kind of like Fleetwood Mac, if youve ever heard their music, which was hugely popular in the 70s and 80s. LBT is like them because theres usually one main singer for each song but the rest of them sing the backup harmonies together. And its all of their voices together that make this bands sound so different and so amazing. You just have to hear them. The two lead female vocalistsKimberly and Karenmet back in college, which I think is so cool, and why I wanted to tell you about them. Theyve worked so hard through the years and are about to release their third CD, called A Place to Land on November 6 (buy it here). But my point is that they started out as two girls who became friends in college and realized that when they sang together, they sounded awesome, and they kept their dream to have a hit CD alive. Now here they are today, living their dream.
So listen and watch their new video for Im With the Band here and if youre just starting out as a singer/songwriter, keep at it! Dont let go of your passion. Kim and Karen didnt and now they have one of the best bands around, one of my absolute favorites that I never get sick of listening to. Tell me if youre fans of LBT too!
Love,
Susan
