are celebs above the law?

May 7, 2007 at 8:00PM by Mai Hoang |

Paris Hilton I'm sure you've heard that Paris Hilton was sentenced to 45 days in jail for breaking the terms of her DUI probation--driving twice the speed limit at night WITHOUT her headlights on and with a suspended license. Of course, she's not the only celeb who's been busted on DUI charges. Just this past week, Busta Rhymes, Eve and even squeaky-clean Ty Pennington got smacked by the long arm of the law. Ty reacted by saying "I made an error in judgment." Paris blamed her publicist for giving her bad legal advice. She also said the sentence was "cruel and unwarranted," adding "I don't deserve this." At first I was inclined to say "Oh, poor little rich girl." But then I started to wonder if she was being made an example of because she's so famous--and unlikable. Like Martha Stewart. Was Paris being punished more harshly because of her diva image? What do you think?
