single file

Girl on Beach Growing up, I noticed that there were two kinds of girls: ones that always had a boyfriend and ones that never had a boyfriend. I was always one of the ones without one....

Here's my (non sob) story: In high school, I spent more time hitting the books than hitting parties because I wanted to get into a good college. There were guys that liked me and I'd hang out with them, but I just never liked any of them enough to get serious. Plus, I was really shy and awkward around guys back then, so I avoided being in relationships. I was also so involved with my schoolwork and extracurriculars that I had ZERO time and energy to devote to a guy. Then, I got to college and I wanted to have all the fun that I didn't have in high school! I wanted to go out, enjoy the single life, and not be tied down to one person. I had a boyfriend for 5 months during my junior year, then broke up with him because I noticed a lot of red flags popping up. I also found out that he had a very, very sketchy past (can't talk about that here!)

Now, I'm in my 20s and I'm still the single girl. People ask me all the time why I don't have a boyfriend, and it bothers me a little. It makes me feel like I need to have one! I go on dates, which are a lot of fun, but I proceed with caution. I've just seen so many of my friends get into terrible relationships with loser guys that ended up really hurting them. I know all guys aren't jerks, but I've just met so many that are!

Being single is great and I love it, but sometimes I get a tad bummed when I see couples holding hands or eating dinner together. But I keep reminding myself that those girls found guys that were great for them at that point in time. A wise lady (my mama!) once told me never to settle for anything less than perfect (in my eyes, at least). And I guess she's right - my BF has to be so special that he makes me not want to date anyone else but him!

Are there any other CG!s out there livin' and lovin' the single life? As much as I love it, I'll admit that sometimes I feel like everyone is attached but me. Can any of you relate? Talk to me!
