diy dunce

I've always been the girl who likes to think she's crafty and creative, but in reality, anything I do DIY turns out to be a DIY don't. I can't sew well, draw well, or even cut well, so I've ruined a great deal of clothing and accessories in the past.

The other day, Bethany (another CG! intern) came in wearing yellow rain boots with doodles all over them. I didn't even realize they weren't made that way until another intern asked about them. She doodled on them and they looked good.

I think my problem has been that I've always attempted to do too much. One time I cut up an old hamper material to make a makeshift yoga bag. The bottom started out the right size—but by the time I got to the top, there was no way it was going to fit anything thicker than a rolled-up magazine.

So from now on my projects are going to be simple. I'm thinking I might replace the plain buttons on one of my coats with these vintage-looking ones I found at a flea market. That's not too much of a challenge. And if all else fails, I can just have my grandma do the sewing, right?

Do you have any (simple) DIY projects that I should try?
