election dropouts

After months and months of hard campaigning, John Edwards and Rudy Giuliani have decided to bow out of the race. It makes sense for both of them when you look at the numbers, but I’m sure a lot of people are going to be bummed.

What’s most surprising is that two months ago, Giuliani was riding high on his way to snagging the nomination. But somewhere on the circuit of Iowa, New Hampshire, South Carolina, and Florida, he lost his momentum. He made a pretty bold move in deciding not to campaign hard in Iowa, considering how influential the caucuses always seem to be in the campaign. All the same, his decision still comes as a shock to some people.

As for Edwards, his loyal (though limited) supporters are heartbroken. His drop puts a lot more heat on the head-to-head between Hillary and Barack. The Edwards team is saying he’s not planning on endorsing a candidate just yet, but he might sometime in the future. It goes without saying that both of the campaigns would be thrilled to have his support.
