fan mail

Two things happened recently that got me thinking about fan mail. First, a few weeks ago we received an awesome letter from a CG! telling us how much she loved the Earth to CG! article “Drive Away Global Warming” (from the May issue). Then Rachel, our entertainment editor, mentioned that when she was younger she used to write tons of letters to her favorite TV and music stars.

It got me wondering why I’ve never written fan mail. Even during the peak of my *NSYNC obsession it never occurred to me to express my love for Justin Timberlake in the form of a letter.

I guess I just figured that nothing would come of it. Interestingly, though, Rachel said that when she sent letters to her favorite celebrities she would sometimes get posters mailed back to her. Sure, it wasn’t a personalized letter (like the one I wrote thanking the girl who liked our article), but I’m sure it made her day.

Have any of you CG!s ever written fan mail? Did you get a response? Who are the celebs that you would write fan letters to if you were ever going to do it?

Personally, if I were going to do it I’d probably write to J.K. Rowling (I loved Deathly Hallows ) or John Mayer ( Continuum is my favorite CD).

Maybe one of you CG!s will inspire me to finally pick up a pen. I can’t wait to hear from you!
