growing up is hard to do

This past week was my older sister’s 21st birthday and although I was so excited for her, I couldn’t help thinking about how strange it is that in a couple of years we will actually be working adults. It seems like yesterday when we both had chicken pox and had to take oatmeal baths or when we would make mud pies and not realize that it probably wasn’t a good idea to actually put them in the oven.

Time has flown by and it took my sister’s birthday for me to realize that I’m actually pretty nervous about growing up. Although technically I’m already an adult, being in college still isn’t like being in the real world. We still have homework, cafeterias, and tests—it seems like the only thing that has really changed is the fact that my room at home is now vacant.

Although I have a job to pay for as much as I can on my own, my parents are still supporting me for a large part, so I’m nervous about what it’s going to be like when I’m on my own. On one hand, I can’t wait to be a sophisticated working girl, but on the other hand, I wish I could just go back to the days when trying to figure out where Barbie and Ken were going to go on their date was a tough decision.
