I never really got into Harry Potter. I think it’s because I try to boycott anything over-promoted like that, perhaps in an attempt to undermine capitalism. Okay, that’s a lie. The truth is, I just never got around to it, but I probably should have.

Last week, I took an exam for my children’s literature class, and more than 80 percent of the 100 questions were about insignificant details hidden inside the seven-book series! C’mon!

My sister, a Harry fanatic (total understatement, by the way), tried explaining the basic plot lines and characters, and I thought I knew enough to get a decent grade. Well, I was wrong. I couldn’t name all the positions of Quidditch and I certainly had no clue Peter Pettigrew was a rat. I should have known my teacher was obsessed — she actually offers an entire semester’s class on the “Cultural Phenomenon of Harry Potter.” Crazy!

What do you think, CG!s? Is this sad? Am I the only one who has not read the entire series? What do you think about HP-focused college exams and classes? Would you take them?
