Confession: On my flight up to the Big Apple last summer for my first fashion internship, I excitedly listened to New York, New York by Frank Sinatra as the plane was making its descent into LaGuardia. So corny, I know. Although Sinatra hasnt been a regular on my iPod lately (okay, maybe just a little ), my love for this amazing city grows every day. For my first blog entry, I decided to rave about my favorite things about the City That Never Sleeps.
The Fashion
NYC is one of the fashion capitals of the world! To say the least, I am absolutely obsessed with couture and designer duds; but what I love most about New York style is checking out the urban chic fashion strutting all around town, especially in my neighborhood, the Lower East Side. The sidewalks are hipsters catwalks as they rock out to their mp3s and show off their very original style. Anything goes, and everything just seems to work: tight drain pipe jeans with suspenders, sunglasses so big theyre suitable for space travel, neon pink leggings, and black and white lace-up oxfords. Living here has definitely influenced my personal style! I am on the hunt for very high waisted jeans for fall!
Celebrity Sightings
During lunch break at CosmoGIRL!, all of us fashion interns eat together in the Hearst cafeteria, and we are always sure to keep an eye on who is coming in and out of the building. I nearly choked on my PB&J when LeAnn Rimes was riding down the escalator. The other day I was shopping in my neighborhood grocery store when I met Victorias Secret supermodel Karolina Kurkova! She was so sweet and even more beautiful in person, despite the fact she was all sweaty from just working out. I also had to do a double-take when I passed a very pregnant Naomi Watts on the street. I am still waiting to get trapped in an elevator with George Clooney. Ill keep yall posted!
Tasti-D Lite
Fuggett bout the famous New York style pizza! The citys absolute best culinary contribution to the world is Tasti D Lite! This cold, creamy heaven in a cone is seriously my sixth food group. I cant go a few days without eating one of the over 100 different flavors they have! Luckily, theres a Tasti D right next to the Hearst tower (must be fate!), and so I am never too far from my favorite indulgence.
China Town
China Town is one of my favorite burrows in the city. I love walking down to China Town with my older brother to buy our produce in the outdoor markets because it is so much less expensive there. Trust me, theres no where else in Manhattan you can get six of the juiciest apples for one dollar! Plus, I get to practice my Chinese with the locals, so I am sure my professors at Vanderbilt will be pleased!
