put a label on it!

Hey CG!s, have you ever noticed how people are always trying to label other people’s relationships, but avoid labeling their own like the plague?

I know that’s quite a loaded statement, but let me explain. My friend recently met a new guy through some mutual friends. They had only hung out a couple times before people started asking them questions. They hadn’t even gone on a real date, and their friends were already wondering if they were boyfriend and girlfriend!

I can understand where my friend’s coming from. Even after hanging out with someone for a long time, it can be really hard (and awkward!) to have the “so what are we?” conversation.

Now, in the age of MySpace and Facebook, we’re not only expected to dish to our friends about our relationships, but also to publicize out status on our profile pages. Because of how uncomfortable it can be to make that information public, I know lots of people that are in fake “marriages” with their best friends, or simply don’t answer the question at all. It seems like this pressure to label things with guys is never-ending!
