While watching the NCAA men's basketball tournament this week, I realized that there's a lesson to be learned here. So ladies, take some notes.

For most guys, there's one institution that has been in their lives almost as long as love and marriage — sports. When Super Bowl Sunday, the BCS bowls, March Madness, the World Series and the NBA playoffs roll around, guys tend to have one-track minds. But that doesn't mean he has to lose you as his focus.

Instead of sighing and rolling your eyes, impress him (and his friends!) by showing that you can hang with the boys. Here's some tips on how to make it work:

Focus on the positive. OK, so you don't like sports, but maybe you like drama. Games have some of the most dramatic moments out there (maybe even better than The Hills), so prepare to get your adrenaline pumping!

Get creative. If you're not into the game, find something to do that keeps you involved. Host a game watching party or make some snacks for him and his friends.

Fake enthusiasm. Do you really think he likes watching Gossip Girl? Return the favor.

Ask questions. Maybe you don't like sports because you don't understand them. Don't be afraid to ask if you're confused. He'll like teaching you something!

Give him some space. Most guys will watch sports with their girlfriend if she's willing, but if your guy wants time with his friends, give it to him. Don’t complain.
