I’ll admit I wish I was a princess. So it shouldn’t come as a big surprise that I also adore the Princess Diaries series written by Meg Cabot. Her latest installment Princess Mia does not disappoint (that and I am secretly living vicariously through Mia until either Prince William or Harry realize I’m alive). The novel is made up of dozens of journal entries so that it feels like you’re reading notes and amusing pop culture references from one of your best friends. I even felt like I could relate to Princess Mia Thermopolis (of Genovia) despite not quite being a true princess myself.

Mia is having a rough year. First, she breaks up with her long time boyfriend, Michael. Whose sister, Lilly, was her best friend until she decided to stop talking to her. Plus, her pushy grandmother wants her to give a speech in front of an exclusive women’s society and to top it all off someone has created an "I Hate Mia Thermopolis" website! No wonder Mia’s goal is to never change out of her Hello Kitty pajamas or get out of bed ever again. Fortunately, a rather eclectic bunch of characters come to her aid. Oh, and I can’t forget to mention the explosion! I’ll just leave it to you to find out if by explosion I mean literally or romantically!

You’re definitely going to want to have your own copy of this book. Since not only does the book jacket look like an actual lock and key diary but the hard cover has a small metallic pink tiara imprinted on it! How fun is that?
