Sleeping and Naps

We all know that lack of sleep at night can be harmful on not only our bodies, but our learning and working abilities. Well, as an often sleep-deprived college student, I’m known to have taken a nap or two in my day. With the amount of time students devote to class, work, sports, student organizations and a social life, it’s no wonder we don’t get a good night’s sleep.

After countless calls from my mom wondering why I’m sleeping in the middle of the afternoon and overusing my “I picked it up in Spain” excuse, I decided to do a little research. And although it is debated, it turns out naps can be helpful when you take them in moderation.

According to the New York Times, some studies show that naps can improve your learning and memorizing abilities, especially if you stayed up all night studying or talking to friends on AIM. Of course, this doesn’t mean we should be constantly taking 3-hour naps every day, but hey, there is some proof that being a napper doesn’t automatically make you lazy!

So CG!s, are you getting enough sleep? Do you get grief for napping a lot like me? Any tips on how to ensure a good night’s sleep?
