Need Them Nails!

In the crazy city that is New York, few things truly stand out. Today however, I did. Known for wearing more than my fair share of black, I decided to go for a splash of color. While my Tuesday lunches are typically spent people watching in Bryant Park, to beat the heat I headed to Broadway and 39th for a quick nail fix. There I took my nail beds where it would seem that few have been before; a shade of neon yellow so bright it turned just about every head from 42nd Street to the South Seaport. Dubbed “Shorty Pants,” this hue from famed nail polish company, Essie, is guaranteed to make a bold statement for those brave enough to try it. If yellow is just not your color, choose from the line’s other neon shades, hot pink “Short Shorts,” pulsating purple “Bermuda Shorts,” and bright coral “Mini Shorts.”

While initially hesitant to paint my nails such a blaring color, on a whim I decided to let my manicurist choose between two neon shades. Right away I began getting looks. Right after I began getting compliments. My nails were first admired by the conservative pale pink nailed lady to my right, then by the fashion savvy girls at work, and finally by the punk rockers riding the subway. While some fashion risks may leave you cringing even years later (I wasn’t the only one who wore butterfly clips), others leave you feeling well, just a little brighter.
