one or many?

Growing up, I always had one best friend: Naomi. I met her in second grade and we did everything together. Even though we’d get in fights (and she’d hide in my closet until I apologized), everyone could tell how much we adored each other.

In fourth grade, we even started a club (the Two-by-Two club) that was for best friends only. We’d meet at recess and play games that required a partner (until we broke some girl’s sandal in the three-legged race and got in trouble). We declared our “best friend marriage” on a Doodle Bear and still celebrate our best friends’ anniversary each year.

But she went away to school starting junior year of high school and now spends most of her holidays traveling the world (she’s always been the adventurous one). I’ve had to survive without her.

Just because she was gone didn’t mean I could sit at home and feel sorry for myself. I ended up becoming close with a lot of people and discovered that I didn’t have just one best friend anymore. I have a lot!

Even though I love having Naomi as my “official” best friend, I also love that I found best friends in my roommates and a few high school friends. The only problem will be choosing my bridesmaids someday!
