pay it forward

On my way to work this morning, I was about to stop for my daily Starbucks when I noticed a homeless man crying ... not for money, but for food. You have to understand that as a New Yorker, you become desensitized to homeless people begging — I’d go broke just giving to the homeless on my 25-block walk to work. But today was different. This man wasn’t asking for money, he was crying for food. So, I went into Starbucks, and got my morning dose of caffeine and a bagel. Then, I walked outside and gave it to the homeless guy. He looked at me in sheer surprise and thanked me because I actually took the time to care. Yes, it felt good to wrack up some karma points by helping this man out, but I stopped to think about how inconsequential the dollar I spent on that bagel was to me, but how monumental it was for him.

So, CG!s, I urge you to go out into the world today and pay it forward! It could be something simple, like giving someone a compliment to brighten their day. Then, tell me what things you have done to help out others.
