red mango rocks

Red Mango Yogurt

In my quest to be the healthiest eater possible (not quite there yet, but I try), I'm always looking for good-for-you snacks and treats. Yes, I am a BIG snacker. Because I have food in my mouth every two hours, I have to make healthy choices. But you know what? I love to eat healthy foods. There's nothing better than sinking my teeth into a big, juicy Fuji apple as a mid-morning snack. I'm also a big fan of tangerines, carrot sticks and hummus, salt-free pretzels, and, when my sweet tooth flares up, Gummy Bears (ok, they're full of sugar, but they aren't nearly as guilt-inducing as a Snickers bar!).

One downfall of trying to eat well all the time is that it’s not easy to find healthy alternatives to unhealthy things I sometimes crave. Until now, that is. My new obsession, my new love, my new second home is...drumroll, please...Red Mango. Have you ever heard of it? It’s pure heaven for someone like me who a) loves yogurt, b) loves frozen desserts, and c) loves fruit. Now for everyone getting super excited, please know that you won’t go into Red Mango and find diet versions of “Chunky Monkey” or “Phish Food”. This is fro-yo at it’s simplest: there’s original, and there’s green tea. It actually tastes like plain yogurt you’d find in your grocery store – only frozen. It’s not sugary-sweet. It’s more tart-sweet, if that makes sense. And in addition to tasting freakin’ awesome, it’s good for you. It has active yogurt cultures which help digestion and boost your immune system. And wait! It gets better - there are toppings, too. No, not sprinkles and hot fudge. Think raspberries, blueberries, banana, almonds, strawberries, granola, pineapple, Golden Grahams and Cinnamon Toast Crunch cereal, shredded coconut and – surprise, surprise - mango. My favorite combination is the regular flavor with mango, strawberries and Golden Grahams. I will end by saying that the first time I had Red Mango, I wondered to myself if I could buy one of those frozen-yogurt dispenser machine things for my apartment.

So what is your dessert obsession?

Lots of love,
Jill, assistant beauty & fitness editor
