music the new way

Carrie Underwood MusicPass

My sister’s birthday is coming up, and she’s one of those people that is just impossible to shop for. What do you get for the girl who has everything? For the past few years, I’ve gone the safe (read: boring) route and gotten her a gift card. But this year, I decided it was going to be different.

After a lot of searching around, I stumbled across a cool new way to give the gift of music: Sony BMG’s Platinum MusicPass. You buy a card for a specific album from a major retail store (like Target or Best Buy), and then you redeem it online for the digital files. But you don’t just get the album — you get all kinds of extra features like remixes, interviews, live tracks, videos, and more. It’s way more personal than a generic iTunes gift card because you can pick out the albums that you want to give. But it’s better than a CD because, well, let’s face it: CDs are practically obsolete. Who needs all of that packaging when all you’re going to do is upload the tunes to your iPod anyway? The MusicPass cuts out the CD and brings the music straight from the store to your computer.

What do you think, CG!s? Would you try something like this?

xoxo,
Kristen
