stealing style from previous generations

Generation Closet Shopping

I’ve heard of raiding mom’s closet, and I definitely have gone through my sister and my friend's closet before, but it never really occurred to me to check out my Nanni’s (my grandmother) closet. A few months ago my mom was helping my Nanni clean out her closet and she found some shoes that she wasn’t using anymore. All my life I’ve known her to have great style and dress really well, not to mention she’s always been quite the shopaholic. Anyway, my mom came home that day and told me Nanni was getting rid of two pairs of shoes that she thought I might like to have. Surprisingly we both have the same size foot. She gave up a pair of red leather ankle boots (vintage) and a pair of patent leather black pumps by Clarks (not so vintage). They are very cute and fit perfectly. The other night while out with some friends I found out that I am not the only one who wears things that their grandmother once wore. My very stylish friend Natasha had on the cutest blue sweater. It was really adorable and a few of the other girls thought so too. Some of us inquired where she bought it. When she told us that it was actually her great aunt’s we were shocked that it was made and bought in another time period, but also disappointed that we couldn’t find it at a store for ourselves. The sweater was in great condition. That is Natasha in the picture. The earrings and the bracelet are also her great aunt's. I thought it was cool that other girls I know also enjoy vintage clothing, especially from their grandmothers or in Natasha’s case, great aunt, that can make outfits like that look stylish today.

You would be shocked to find what your Grandma is hiding from you besides her pearls. The next time she needs to do some spring cleaning and go through her wardrobe, help her out, you never know what she could end up giving you that could make your friends say “WOW”.

Have you ever found a vintage treasure in your Grandma's closest? Tell me what you discovered!

Until next week…xoxo
Amanda
