Schools finally out (yay!), and its time for sun, sand, smoothies, and of course, summer movies! Sure, the season kicked off early this year with the first of the blockbuster three-quels, Spider-Man 3, out May 4. And among my favorites already, Shrek the Third (I think Im in love with the Gingerbread Man!) and for those of you old enough (hee!) Knocked Up (my stomach is still aching from laughing so hard!). And I have yet to see Nancy Drew, which came out Friday.
But rest assure, there are still plenty of amazing blockbusters to come. I especially cant wait to see the three H movies (ha!)Hairspray, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, and High School Musical 2. Heres my top 10 list
Top 10 Movies to (Still) See this Summer!
1- Hairspray (July 20)
Ive seen the Broadway musical twice in the last few monthsand Im obsessed with the music! (My fave: Run and Tell That!) But Ive always had an issue with Broadway shows turned into movies (in fact, I still refuse to see the screen versions of Phantom of the Opera and Rent.) However, this movie is so well cast that Im confident this will be the movie of the summer. Seriously who else could possibly be Corny Collins other than James Marsden, or Penny Pingleton other than Amanda Bynes? And this is so the role thats going to thrust little Zac Efron into superstardom. Have you seen clip of his solo Ladies Choice?! Watch out Elvis, Zac knows how to work those hips!
2- Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (July 11)
Yes, Im a total Harry Potter-head! And Im actually more excited about the final book coming out on July 21 than this movie (Im going to read it s-l-o-w-l-y because I dont want it to be over!), but still I secretly think Im Cho Chang (just call me Ra-Cho Chang from now on! Ha!)
and in this flick, I get to finally smooch Harry! Its about time!
3- High School Musical 2 (August 17)
Im a tad spoiled since Im the only press person in the world whos been on the set of both HSM1 and HSM2, so naturally Im a little biased. But after spending two days in St. George, Utah, during the filming of HSM2, I can even tell those of you who thought the first was a tad cheesy (myself included), the bar has totally been raised. The scenery with the red rock mountains in the background is gorgeous, the production value is much higher, and the cast is even more lovable (and hotter... both the guys and girls!). What time is it?! Time for another hit movie!
4- Super Bad (August 17)
Before you go thinking Im such a goody-goody, I do have my rebellious side too- ha! Super Bad comes from Judd Apatow, the funnyman behind The 40-Year-Old Virgin and Knocked Up. Love that (dirty) humorand this time its set at a high school house party. You can just imagine the antics! Cant wait!
5- I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry (July 20)
How can you resist Adam Sandler and his self-proclaimed egg-head? All I need to hear is Adam and comedy, and Im at the theater! And in this movie, he and Kevin James have to pretend theyre a gay couple... let the laughs begin!
6- Penelope (August 17)
This Christina Ricci fairytale comedy was pushed back from earlier this spring, and looks like it will be well worth the wait. If Christinas brave enough to wear a big pig snout for the sake of laughs, its got to be a riot!
7- Charlie Bartlett (August 3)
I kinda cheated and have already seen this one. Charlie Barlett is a total high school loner who finds his niche as a student psychiatrist, setting up shop in the boys bathroom. Its a coming-of-age teen movie, but theres nothing typical about this one. Its so real and has so much heart that youre going to fall in love with Charlieand Anton Yelchinwho plays him! Plus spot the number of Degrassi cast members who have cameos. And did I mention Tyler Hilton plays a bad boy rebel? Now thats hot!
8- 1408 (June 22)
Theres something so intriguing about the trailer to this scary movie that I just need to see it to find out what happens. Plus how adorable is John Cusack? I saw him in person at Regis and Kelly last week and my heart melted remember him as Jonathan Traeger in Serendpity.
9- Transformers (July 3)
I watch Las Vegas and have no idea whats going on every weekI just love staring at Josh Duhamel for an hour a week. So you can bet Ill be there to watch Josh on the big screen. And to see the supertalented Shia LaBeouf in his first blockbuster role. You go, Shia!
10- Evan Almighty (June 22)
How can you look at Steve Carells face and not laugh?! In a good way of course! And with animals being brought in two by two, this has got to be a barrel of monkeys...and more!
And theres plenty more like Stardust (August 10), Ratatouille (June 29), The Simpsons Movie (July 27), License to Wed (July 3), No Reservations (July 27), and Wedding Daze (August 17) just to name a few!
Let me know what you think, and which ones you guys are most looking forward to! Be honest!
Cant wait to hear what you think!
