Paris Fashion Week: Talbot Runhof Spring/Summer 2009

If the Talbot Runhof show on Saturday was any indication, glamour is back, and it's bigger and better than ever. Against the gritty, industrial backdrop of a parking garage in the third arrondissement of Paris, designers Johnny Talbot and Adrian Runhof showcased a fetching collection inspired by the French Riviera of the 1920s. The title of the show was "Living Well is the Best Revenge" – a famous quote that the designers say reflects the social spirit of both the '20s and today.

To remixed versions of "I Got Rhythm" by Ella Fitzgerald and "Summertime" by Billie Holiday, tanned models strutted down the runway in a range of classic silhouettes, from voluminous ball gowns to slim pantsuits to flouncy little cocktail numbers. This is also about the fifth show I've seen with super-short shorts that could almost be mistaken for undergarments – I sure hope this isn't a trend that starts showing up on the streets!

But what really got my pulse racing were the accessories. There were chic bonnets (who knew there was a way to make a bonnet look chic?), petite round sunglasses in a range of colors and bold headbands that would have made Blair Waldorf proud. The items were unique but still wearable – a balance that's hard to strike in ready-to-wear fashion. Just beware if you decide to crib this look – you might just be swarmed by paparazzi!
