why are we obsessed with celeb pregnancies?

It's weird how much celebrity magazines (and their readers, including me!) obsess over the "baby bumps" of everyone from Jessica Alba to Gwen Stefani. Even Jon Stewart made a joke about knocked-off A-listers at the Oscars. Why do we care so much about the "blessed event" in the lives of people we don't know? We must care enough for magazines to spend millions of dollars for exclusive pics of JLo's twins. For me, I guess it's about being happy for these people, like I would be for any of my friends who are expecting. What can I say, I love babies!

But the downside is when the tabloids show pictures of people just after they ate a big lunch and then ask, "Is she pregnant?!" That seems invasive and way too premature. At least wait for an announcement, you know? What do you think, CG!s? What's with the obsession with celebrity pregnancies and babies?
