brooke's idols
The first question I am asked in the majority of interviews is how a wrestler's daughter got into the music business. A lot of people think that I'm doing this just for the celebrity title, but what those people don't know is that I grew up surrounded by music its been my passion since before I can remember. Even my dad was a musician back in the day! Before he ever stepped into a wrestling ring he was playing bass guitar in the garage of my Grandma's house in Clearwater, FL. My mom's side of the family is also very musical my mom and my Grandma both play the piano. I definitely got my musical talent from her side and my drive to perform from my dad. I think it worked out pretty well! Haha.
I grew up listening to the music that my mom would play through the house I remember hearing the Isley Brothers, Whitney Houston, The Gap Band...so many amazing artists, but the one that has always stuck out most in my mind is Stevie Wonder. I completely idolize him he's so gifted and he's accomplished so much in his life. Actually the first time I ever saw Stevie was at the Grammy Awards last year. I remember starting to freak out (I was seriously crying and blubbering like a baby lol) and my mom was like, "Brooke. You have to calm down. You're on the red carpet at the Grammys. You CANNOT freak out like this." Lol. About a month ago I actually got an opportunity to meet Stevie in person. My parents set it up for me as a surprise at his radio station in California. I had NO idea that Stevie himself would be there and when I saw him I thought I was going to pass out! I can't even describe how excited I was!!!
I've also always looked up to Britney Spears as well. Not just as a musician, but as a person. Britney grew up in the spotlight, having her every move criticized. That's definitely got to be hard! Regardless of what anyone says about her, Britney built herself into a brand and created her own opportunities. She didn't wait around for things to happen to her; she made them happen for herself and that's why I admire her. With everything going on in her life right now I can't wait to see how she pulls through and I think I'm more excited than anyone to see her comeback! Way to go Britney!!!!
One day I hope I can look back and be proud of the things that I have accomplished throughout my career, just like Stevie and Britney! For now, though, back to practicing my piano. I've got an early rehearsal tomorrow!!
Make sure to keep voting for me on VH1.com - all your help and support brings me closer and closer to achieving my dreams!!
All my love!
Brooke
