green is the new black
Hello CosmoGIRLS,
Wow, my second blog already. Means summer is cruising right along. I hope you are all enjoying long days in the sun doing all kinds of cool stuff. Speaking of cool stuff, I have decided to write about my new car, which is really cool. "Why is he writing about his new car and what's so cool about it?" some of you may ask.....Well, because it's a different kind of car. It's a hybrid.
A hybrid, as many of you probably know, is an automobile that uses a special electric motor that assists the gas powered motor to achieve better fuel efficiency and lower emissions. My SUV functions just like any other car except for the fact that sometimes it runs on electric power, sometimes on gas power, or sometimes a combination of the two, which allows me to get more miles per gallon. For somebody who drives as much as I do (lot's of road trips, good to escape from LA!) it means that I am saving money on gas and not having to stop to re-fuel as much as I once did
Saving money on gas and not having to stop as much to re-fill is great, but it's not the main reason why I bought the hybrid. I bought it to help with my part in taking responsiblity for our environment. Seeing that I live in one of the worst cities for air pollution in the country it was an easy choice to make.
Now I drive around in my cool new hybrid and everybody is staring, when they're not all looking at the Benz's, Porsches and Ferraris that also crowd the street of LA. But, I have a smile on my face knowing that I'm making a positive difference, which to me is cooler than a dinky little Italian sports car.
Driving a hybrid is a simple way to make a difference if you are in the market for a new car, but isn't the only way for those of you who don't drive yet. You can educate yourself in a variety of ways by watching the news, reading newspapers, magazines and checking out environmental group websites like the Sierra Club and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
Also, make sure you and your family are recycling at home and that your school is doing so as well. Remember that green is the new black this season!!
Adios for now,
Mark
