Have you always been funny, or did you have to learn to be a comedian?
"I don't think it's something you learn. I've always loved Jim Carrey and Lucille Ball. I just love comedy, and I have so much energy."
How do you channel that energy?
"I enjoy doing things that are scary or things that some girls might not like because it won't let them look gorgeous. Like, in my new movie I play a boy, and every day they'd pin my hair back and I'd have no makeup. That's when you start relying more on your sense of humor."
What kind of guys do you like?
"I think every girl wants someone who is smart and funny, and I do too. But I want someone who is interesting. I mean, I want to be attracted to him, but beauty fades. There are many guys and girls who grew up being beautiful and never had to be smart or look hard for anything."
You seem so approachable. How do you react when people come up to you?
"It's really nice, as long as they are nice to me and respectful. Some people have a strange way of being like, "Amanda!" and just shouting it out. It's like, "What do you want me to say?" I saw Jeff Daniels and I went up to him and said, "Ummm, I loved 'Dumb and Dumber.' I've seen it like 40 times and I know every word you said." If people come up to me and have watched and liked my work, it's so nice."
Do you want to be the type of superstar who everyone recognizes wherever she goes?
No, I really don't, and that's why I kind of slowed down. When I did "What A Girl Wants," it showed me how quick people are to give you fame, even if you have really done nothing. I want to be worthy of the notoriety that I get. I can't wait to do "Saturday Night Live," but I don't want to until I'm ready.
Is there anything you wouldn't do for a laugh?
I would never make fun of my family and I would never demean my body because that's just not funny to me.
