Five Questions with This Providence
With the recent release of their third album, Who Are You Now, and their single, "My Beautiful Rescue," featured on The Hills, This Providence is finally getting some much deserved attention. Although these cuties from Seattle have been on the indie radar for awhile, they are just breaking onto the mainstream music scene; and you don't want to be the last to catch on. Their self-described "energetic, feel good, pop-rock" sound will get you singing along, while their stories about battling evil in a Wendy's drive-through will get you laughing. By Molly Kissler

WHAT IS BEHIND THE BAND NAME, THIS PROVIDENCE?

\r\n

DANIEL YOUNG (VOCALS, GUITAR): Providence means divine intervention. We feel like we\'re meant to be, and \'This Providence\' is a poetic way to say it.

WHAT IS THE CRAZIEST THING THAT HAS EVER HAPPENED ON TOUR?

\r\n

DAVID BLAISE (BASS): Once at a Wendy’s drive-through at one in the morning, this guy behind us kept honking and yelling because we were taking too long to order. Of course we kept moving slower and slower just to piss him off. When we finally got our food, the guy from the drive-through came outside by the van with a full can of Coke. He shook it up and threw it under our car like a grenade. We all jumped out of the van and took off our shirts and ran after him. You have to take your shirt off when you fight because you feel more masculine. We were ready to throw down, throwing mayonnaise and ranch dressing at the guy.

\r\n

GAVIN PHILLIPS (GUITAR): We’re usually a pretty tame band, but that night we got wild. We became man beasts; rock-star, man-beasts. We didn’t fight, we battled.

WHO ARE YOUR MUSICAL INFLUENCES?

\r\n

YOUNG: I don’t know if I really have any specific musical influences. We really like to listen to The Beatles, Jimmy Eat World, Oasis, and Third Eye Blind.

\r\n

PHILLIPS: I love The Cure.

\r\n

BLAISE: The Academy Is... and Paramore are probably two of my favorite bands that we have toured with. They are great performers.

DO YOU HAVE ANY CELEBRITY CRUSHES?

\r\n

YOUNG: Mandy Moore, for me.

\r\n

HORST: Vanessa Hudgens.

\r\n

PHILLIPS: I don’t think I have any, really. I guess I’ll go ahead and say Megan Fox just for the heck of it.

\r\n

ANDY HORST (DRUMS): What about Patti Mayonnaise from Doug? She’s a babe. We love Patti Mayonnaise.

DO YOU HAVE ANY ADVICE FOR GIRLS WHO WANT TO DATE A MUSICIAN?

\r\n

YOUNG: Don\'t!

\r\n

PHILLIPS: Yeah, say no. Just let it be a fling.

\r\n

BLAISE: It’s hard in general to find a relationship, because you are always working and always traveling. But to actually keep something going once you do find it is really hard too. Being in different time zones and having totally different schedules can get difficult.
