Get Hilary Duff's Look
material girls!
CG! turns the star sisters into totally materialistic girls.

They may be living in the material world of Hollywood, but there's nothing spoiled about Hilary and Haylie Duff - except for their heiress characters in Material Girls. To celebrate the December 12 DVD release of the first movie the sisters have starred in together, CG! quizzed them on all things - yup, material!

WHAT'S YOUR DEFINITION OF A "MATERIAL GIRL"?

Hilary: Someone who enjoys materialistic things - maybe it's electronics, maybe it's fashion. I don't know if it's necessarily a good thing.

Haylie: But it's not necessarily a bad thing. A material girl likes fancy things and is independent and spunky and not afraid to take fashion risks.

WHAT'S YOUR FAVORITE MATERIAL TO WEAR?

Hilary: Depends on the weather. When it's really cold, cashmere. In the summer, anything that's not too clingy. I would never wear pleather or polyester, though.

Haylie: Probably denim because I wear it every day.

THIS ONE'S FOR HILARY: DESCRIBE THE MATERIAL ON YOUR NEW CD.

Hilary: Totally different. It's slightly hip-hop-ish and more dance and electronic sounding. It's a whole new thing in my life right now.

AND HAYLIE, WHAT KIND OF MOVIE MATERIAL CATCHES YOUR ATTENTION?

Haylie: A good thriller, something that will keep you on the edge of your seat, but not a slasher, bloody-guts type of horror movie.

WHAT MATERIALS DO YOU NEED TO MAKE THE PERFECT HOMEMADE GIFT?

Hilary: I would bake something, especially for the holidays. Here's a really easy recipe: Take semisweet Hershey's Chocolate Chips and a cup of peanut butter, put it together, and melt it. Then put it over Chex cereal and put powdered sugar on it, toss it, lay it out on a cookie sheet, and let it dry. Then you eat it with your fingers. It's called Puppy Chow or Trash - it might be a Texas thing!

Haylie: Use photos and inside jokes to make a photo album. My friend Taylor made one where she cut out pictures and sentences from magazines - it's the perfect homemade gift.

WHICH MOMENT IN YOUR LIFE WERE YOU THE MOST MATERIALISTIC?

Hilary: For a while, I was shopping a lot and getting things that I did not need. Sometimes that's good and fun, but it can get to be too much. You should have other things that excite you. Now I have two cars, which is kind of obsessive. I'm thinking of getting rid of the two-seater and just keeping the SUV.

Haylie: In this business, we're constantly around people who are catering to us - it's definitely not normal at all. That's the good thing about having Hilary in my life. We keep each other in check. We can be like, "Isn't it weird to have them do that for us? This is crazy!"
