DID YOU ALWAYS WANT TO BE A PERFORMER?
Yes. But when I was a kid I didnt want to just be a singer I wanted to be a singing chiropractor. My little brother and I both had bad allergies, so we went the chiropractor and she tested us and put us on herbs. She was an alternative chiropractor, so I thought, "I'll be the singing chiropractor. And I'll heal people."
WHAT IS YOUR SONGWRITING PROCESS?
I started out writing poetry I filled books and books, and then I just began singing my poems. I still write almost every day my journal is just filled with pages. Sometimes I am like, "Oh, that would be a great lyric," but its mostly just poetry. Maybe one day Ill do a book. Songs kind of just hit me a lot of them are when Im driving the melodies and lyrics just come and Ill have to pull over and say it into a tape recorder. I also write a lot of songs with another writer. You definitely get shy at first, pouring your heart out with your journal in front of you, but its such a wonderful relationship to have with someone. Its like you are giving birth to this little song together.
