Can’t wait until Breaking Dawn’s August release? Neither can I. Luckily for anxious fans the bestselling author Stephenie Meyer has written a new novel, The Host. Hopefully the hefty 600+ pages will help hold you over until August 2nd. I promise you it is just as riveting as the Twilight series. Yes, even without the ever-so-dreamy Edward!

Earth has been invaded by a foreign species referred to as the souls and our human bodies have become their hosts. While our bodies stay intact our minds are taken over. Oddly the inserted souls are not your ordinary everyday aliens. They seem to want to make the earth a peaceful happy place. No ray guns in sight. There are however, a handful of people who continue to run resisting the change. Melanie Stryder is one of them. Melanie continues to resist even after she’s captured and the legendary soul, Wanderer, is implanted in her.

Melanie refuses to fade away and such violent resistance is not what Wanderer was expecting. Wanderer thus, begins to listen to Melanie’s thoughts and starts reacting with Melanie’s strong emotions. Together as one body they set off on a dangerous mission to locate Melanie’s younger brother, Jamie and boyfriend, Jared. Only once out in the middle of the desert does the drama really start to unfold and geometrically speaking the so-called love triangle that develops is more of a love square.

With the Twilight series being such a phenomenal hit there is no doubt going to be many comparisons between the series and The Host. However, if you were to ask me which I liked better I don’t think I could give you a definitive answer. The Host while still strongly character driven is a completely different story. A science fiction story that while intensely thought provoking is still about love and even more so the fight for survival. I simply can’t just choose. The one thing though I am a hundred percent sure about is that The Host is a definite MUST read.

Other than The Host what books are you planning on reading this summer?

Enjoy Reading!
