Two Girls in Paris

Last week I was on spring break in PARIS! It was amazing. I almost didn’t want to come home and I think that if you can you should save your money and take a European vacation. It was worth every penny and one of the best vacations I’ve ever taken. While I was over there with my friend Mandie we saw everything from the Eiffel Tower to the Lourve . It was beautiful and so quaint, but of course when you go to a new place you always find yourself comparing it and the people to home.

While walking out of the metro on our way to the Eiffel Tower, Mandie pointed out to me how you can tell who the American girls are because they were all wearing the North Face fleece jacket and a pair Uggs. She said it was like “The American Girl Uniform”. It’s fashionable and trendy here but, we stood apart from those who actually lived there since many of the women were wearing long coats, ballet flats, boots, or heels.

Now, when traveling I don’t suggest wearing heels but you do want to try and look as little like a tourist as you can. I’m not saying be ashamed to be from America, you should be very proud of where you come from, but tourists attract pick-pocketers and the last thing you need is to be stuck in a foreign country with no money or passport. So here are some tips on how to be fashionable and comfortable when traveling abroad.

1.Do wear very comfortable shoes that you have already broken in. Flats can be comfortable, however new ones should be worn in prior to the trip. They are expensive but Cole Haan and Nike collaborated to create very comfortable and cushioned sandals/flats/stilettos. A pair of shoes I will be investing in for my next Euro trip.

2.Don’t wear sweats outside. The most casual is jeans.

3.Now, for as long as the weather is cold, long coats are in style.

4.For bags, use one that you can keep close to your body, especially when walking through touristy, crowded areas. For money, you can buy a money holder to put around your neck under your clothes along with your passport.

So tell me where you would go abroad and if you are lucky enough already have gone share your experience with me!

Until next week….xoxo
