clue him in!
If you’re taking a guy who isn’t in your crowd of friends, give him the lowdown about the night — he’ll have a lot more fun, and so will you!

YOUR LOOK

Give him your dress details. Tell him the color, material, and style (long/short) so he doesn’t have to guess about your corsage. Even better, give him a hint. Say something like, “Last year, my friend’s date got her these gorgeous pink baby roses, and they would match my dress perfectly!” He’ll be happy you dropped the hint.

Suggest his tie color so you don’t clash. He’ll be relieved he doesn’t have to pick it out himself!

If you’re unsure, ask him how tall he is. Then you can decide if you should go for the kitten heel thongs over the four-inch strappy sandals. And he’ll appreciate that you kept him in mind when you were shoe shopping.

WHO’S WHO

Offer him a rundown of your best friends. Tell him their names, how you know them, and some info about their dates. Point them out for him in your Facebook albums.

Fill him in about pre-prom photos. Will it be group shots or just the two of you? Where are you meeting? Who will be there, and whose parents are coming? This way he won’t be totally overwhelmed when the paparazzi cameras (a.k.a. your mom and dad) come out in full force!

Find out if he has any available friends. Just in case a friend’s date bails, you can help her replace him. You’ll help a friend in need and give your date someone to hang with!

THE COST

Give him an idea of what things will cost. He’ll be embarrassed if he doesn’t have enough cash. If you invited him and he’s doing you a favor, foot the bill when possible. If you’re planning on taking a limo, let him know the cost in a non-demanding way, like, “Here’s what my friends and I were thinking could work best money-wise. Does that sound okay with you?”

Let him know what you’re doing after the prom. Are you going to a friend’s house, a school- sponsored party, or somewhere like the beach? Tell him about any overnight stuff — you don’t want to throw any surprises at him if they involve money, travel, or a change of clothes.

ASK HIM THIS!

Now that he’s up to speed, ask your guy these questions (a few at a time) so you’re an expert on him!

1) What’s your favorite show/band/movie? Maybe you both secretly love classic Zelda games.

2) What’s your number one favorite food, and why? His answer will help you plan your pre-prom dinner.

3) Do you have any pets? Give him extra points if he gets mushy talking about his cute little puppy!

4) Where’s the coolest place you’ve ever visited? At the very least, his answer will inspire you to travel!

5) Are you set on a college? Thinking about a major? It’ll give you a look into the future — hee-hee!
