prom dress shopping!

February 25, 2008 at 5:03PM by Unknown Unknown |

Prom City

It’s finally dress shopping time! I can start the everlasting race without people telling me it’s too early. I have yet to go into a store, but I’ve beenn looking online. I have a general idea of what I want and what is an absolute no-no.

My ideal prom dress should be a deep dark color like purple, brown, or navy — maybe a red or yellow, but NOT orange. I would do pink, if it’s dark enough, but no pastels. Strapless dresses are not acceptable in my book. The last thing I need is to be out on the dance floor with a serious wardrobe malfunction. Trust me, it’s happened before, and I’d rather not be embarrassed on my prom night!

Since I’m short, I think its best that I not wear a floor length gown. Sure it looks fancy, but the bottom will probably get dirty. I also don’t want to trip as I’m walking into the building. I don’t want to be remembered as “the girl who fell flat on her face” at prom. There will be no sparkles on my dress either, but beading or lace is okay. I’m treating this event like a debutante ball, minus the gloves. I want to look classy and mature. After all, I am going to college next year.

I’m a little nervous that my perfect dress might be someone else’s perfect dress. Last year, at Junior Prom, someone was wearing the same dress in a different color. It wasn’t that bad, but I wasn’t happy. The store even wrote down which school event I was going to so they didn’t sell the dress to two girls going to the same event! A lot of small stores are doing that now, but all the bigger stores carry the same dresses. So our school found a solution! Last year, a girl made a Prom Dress Facebook group. Everyone posted their dresses so no one got the same dress. We started it up again for our prom. I should be safe, but the only way to truly find out is at the actual prom.

Finding the dress shouldn’t be that hard. It’s going to take time though, so wish me luck! So CG!s, are you also looking for your prom dresses yet? Tell me!

Xoxo,
Shelley
