BLUE CRUSH
“I thought my crush wasn’t going to go to prom, so I didn’t ask him, though I really wanted to. When I saw him there with another girl, I got so upset that I spent the entire night in the hallway. I wish I had just asked him. If he had said no, at least I could say I tried, and I wouldn’t have been as miserable that night.”
—Lauren, 20, Chantilly, VA

TIME CHECK
“I only gave myself two hours to get ready on prom day. Bad move! I was rushing around so much that I forgot my date’s boutonniere. My poor dad had to run to the florist to get it, with minutes to spare. I was so frazzled during photos at my house that it took me a while to unwind and relax. I should’ve given myself at least two more hours to prep!” —Lindsay, 18, Broomall, PA

GOWN AND OUT
“I chose a gown that I didn’t really love. It wasn’t my dream dress at all, and now, a year later, I look back at the pictures and they just don’t make me smile. I think that every girl should find a dress that makes her look — and feel — amazing. You’ll have those pictures forever!” —Céline, 19, Moncton, New Brunswick

FILL 'ER UP
“On prom night, I was so nervous that I didn’t eat my dinner. A few hours later, I felt light-headed and had to sit out a few dances. If I’d been more relaxed and actually enjoyed the meal — or something else filling, like a smoothie — I would have had much more energy, and more fun!” —Ashley, 19, Newark, OH

KEY DECISION
“We didn’t rent a limo, so everyone gave me their car keys. That way, if anyone decided to drink, they couldn’t drive. Some of my other friends who opted out of our plan drove to the after-parties. I watched as they got pulled over for drinking and driving. They spent the night with the police (and the rest of the year without a license) while we were out having fun. They regret not thinking ahead, and I’m glad we did!” —Anna, 22, Newton, MA

STRANGER ANXIETY
“I didn’t have a boyfriend or a guy friend to ask, so I ended up going with a guy I hardly knew, just to have a date. Looking back, I know that I would have had so much more fun if I’d gone with a group of friends. Instead, I just worried about my lame date, who didn’t even want to dance!” —Shanna, 21, Detroit, MI

PROM SNAFU? DON’T SWEAT IT!
Even if you’re the queen of prom planning, bloopers can still happen — your date steps on your dress and leaves a footprint, or splashes punch on you. What to do? Don’t dwell on it. Take a deep breath, laugh, and keep on having fun. The next day? Get that gown to the dry cleaner!
