queen of mean
“Before prom, signs for prom queen flooded the walls of my school. One girl wanted to be queen so badly that she created pamphlets to help other girls get ready for prom. Then she passed out her own getting-ready-for-prom itinerary and invited others to come along with her to get their nails done and work out. She became known as the go-to girl for prom advice! Then she sent a mass MySpace letter out to our graduating class stating that she’d only take photos with girls whose dresses matched hers! The best part? She showed up an hour late because her limo got a flat tire.” —Trisha, 21, Rahway, NJ

playing with fire
“About two months before prom, my school announced that they were having a black-and-white-themed prom. A girl I knew had bought a fire-engine-red dress at the beginning of the school year and decided to wear it anyway. But that’s not all. On the night of the event, she brought a few cans of red spray paint and sprayed some of the decorations so the dance hall would match her dress. She also purposely sprayed two of her friends’ dresses so they would match hers! Her friends were so pissed, they wouldn’t hang out with her after. She got in trouble with the school, and she and her friends were laughed at by everyone who was wearing black and white. She was a true promzilla!” —Jennifer, 21, Elizabeth, NJ

her-tinerary
“My control-freak friend went crazy planning for prom! She went and booked the limo for the group, made dinner reservations at her favorite place, and planned the after-prom party. She even printed itineraries for everybody with exact times, locations, and directions. Everything was scheduled in 15-minute increments! All the girls were to be at her house exactly on time. Plus, she made sure we lined up for our photos in order of dress size. She even put herself right in the middle! Everything was about her, and by the end of the night, everyone was so sick of her antics!” —Christina, 20, Sioux Falls, SD

toxic fuming
“A girl I had known since elementary school began dating my boyfriend’s best friend. I was so excited about their hookup and really enjoyed our double dates. But when he asked her to prom, she transformed from an easygoing girl to a total monster. I asked her to rent a movie with me, and she snapped that she was booked all week. Then, when we got our nails done, I was in shock when she yelled at her manicurist for making her French tips too thin! When we got to the dance, she screamed at the prom committee about the magenta decorations because they clashed with her gown! The next day, her boyfriend became her ex-boyfriend. I can’t even imagine what a pain she’ll be if she ever gets married!” —Hayley, 20, Moscow, ID
