shop, sister!
We know there's no wrong way to shop, but there is a better way! Stacy London from What Not to Wear gives you the lowdown.

Half the fun of going back to school is getting a new wardrobe, right? Stacy says to study your closet before you start shopping (um, way more exciting than studying for a calc exam!). Look at what you own and make a wish list of what's missing. If you need a new top to go with your jeans, should it be a fitted tee, a flowy tunic, or a dressy halter? The more detailed your list, the more successful you'll be. Once you have it, read on for Stacy's tips for every kind of shopping!

DEPARTMENT STORE
Shop by outfit. So if you're looking at jeans, try them on with a top like one you already own to see the full look.
• Any new piece should go with at least two items that are already in your closet.
• Try free styling services, like At Your Service at Bloomingdale's and By Appointment at Macy's. Call ahead to schedule an appointment. You don't have to buy anything, but it's a good idea to go when you think you might actually buy. Describe a look you're going for, such as "feminine" or "classic," by bringing magazine clips.
• Ask salespeople if there are any upcoming sales.
