Misadventures in LOVE: A Three-Part Series

Think you've made mistakes with guys? I'm the queen of it! Don't ask me why, but I'm writing about my blunders for all you guys to see. I'm turning twenty this year, and by this point, I'm convinced awkwardness and love go together like winter and hot chocolate (Okay, so I was never really good at those SAT analogies). Have fun laughing at my expense (haha), and PLEASE, bring on your advice! I need it!

I thought I had met the man of my dreams one fateful Saturday night. Clad in a handsome blazer and wearing a pro-choice pin, I knew he was different from all the other guys in the sweaty house party. Mixed drink in hand, we ended up talking the whole night—so not only was he adorable a la Adam Levine from Maroon 5 but also he was a film editor for our school paper (I have a thing for writers).

Aaah...light headed with knees buckling, I had already planned our marriage ceremony. Well, to put it lightly, I might have gotten a bit too over-excited.

Using Facebook and all its stalking power, I left him paragraph-long messages praising his witty column in our paper (all the while trying to sound witty and sarcastic enough to catch his eye). He seemed to like my flattery, but later he started responding to my messages with a simple "Okay." Then, after some more of these awkward online dialogues, he stopped writing back. Not even with a simple "Okay." Maybe the man of my dreams was just meant to stay in my dreams?

I wish I knew what went wrong. My friends joke that I simply scared him away (perhaps I was coming off too strong with my Facebook stalking?). Or maybe he was just never really interested. I have no idea. I guess the issue was that our relationship hadn't progressed into anything beside a strange Facebook correspondence.

Did you girls ever come close to an online relationship? Or have any advice for me? So far, I've just been avoiding him on campus...
