1. Try 2 percent or fat-free cheese in your sandwiches. It tastes as good as the full-fat version, especially when mixed with the other flavors in a sandwich. For a healthy snack thatll satisfy your cheese craving, melt some fat-free shredded cheddar on Triscuits.
2. Use whole wheat pasta instead of regular. Whole wheat keeps your blood sugar in check, so you wont be hungry again in an hour the way you may be with white pasta.
3. Replace sugary drinks with water. Youll cut out tons of empty calories! To add a little flavor, squeeze a slice of lemon or lime into the water. Sip it through a straw youll drink more without even realizing it! If you cant make the complete switch right away, try sugar-free mixes, like Crystal Light.
4. Make a breakfast mix. Instead of your usual Froot Loops, make your bowl half a fiber-rich cereal, like All Bran, and half Froot Loops. Youll still get to enjoy the flavor you love, but youll also be getting superimportant fiber.
5. Pare down on egg yolks. Most of the fat in an egg comes from the yolk, so if you make your omelet with just the whites, youll be making a fat- and cholesterol-smart choice! Love the yolk too much to give it up completely? Make your omelet with one whole egg and two whites.
