Welcome to the wonderful world of tea!

This week, I got an email from a girl I met, saying that she talked to my apartment management company, and shes made arrangements to move into my apartment! I confess: I did tell her that my roommate and I were looking to move at the same time as her and her roommates were, and (because I remember how hard it is to move to New York City and score a job and an apartment at the same time), I let her come and check out my place one night. But the reality of losing my apartment didnt set in until, well, just now!
Let me explain
Last year around this time, my roommate and I were on a marathon apartment hunt. We looked at so many apartments that were dark and dingy and not what we were looking for at all that I almost started crying when we stumbled upon our brightly lit Upper East Side gem.
We signed the lease, and I was so excited to (finally!) have a few square feet in NYC to call my own. OK, so I was technically sharing about 600 square feet with a roommate, and we were (again, technically) renting, so the space wasnt even really ours, but you get the idea.
It took us a few months (okay, almost five), but we painted our living room, bought a few pieces of furniture, hung a mirror and some art on the walls, and really made the place our own. We even have one of those black and white photo booth pics of us on the fridge!
All of our friends love hanging out at our placehaving room for a kitchen table and chairs, a sofa, separate rooms, closet space, and a pantry is a big deal when youre starting out in the city! So, heres the catch while our apartment is in a great area (a lot of kids fresh out of college live on our block), it definitely lacks the downtown vibe my roommate and I love about the city. It also makes our commute to those cooler areas a little longer than we would like.
So about a year after moving in, we decided to check out some other apartments in the city, so that we could decide if we wanted to move when our lease is up in a month. Thats around the time I met the girl whos (wah!) inheriting my apartment.
To tell you the truth, it will probably be really great for my roommate and I to explore a new area of the city. But Im definitely going to miss our old pad!
So tell me, is it just me, or do you have a sentimental attachment to a place youve lived too? Whether its an old house you and your fam moved out of, or your favorite bunk at sleepaway camp, I want to hear all about it!
Lots of xo,
Jess
