Veg Mistake #1: "I typically eat rice, pasta, or potatoes for dinner."
MENU MAKEOVER:
These foods are healthy (especially when you choose brown rice and wholegrain pasta), but they all belong to the same food group: grains. To make sure youre getting all the nutrients you need, you must eat foods from at least three food groups at every meal (think grains, vegetables, and beans or other protein). Try pasta with lentil (protein) tomato sauce, or a stir-fry with brown rice, veggies, and tofu (protein).
Veg Mistake #2: "When I eat out, I always order a salad and french fries."
MENU MAKEOVER:
This combo lacks protein and dairy, so it's not a complete meal. Plus, fries have tons of fat, and restaurants usually use iceberg lettuce, which has about the same nutritional value as water (none!). Instead, get a baked potato and a spinach salad with colorful veggies like tomatoes and carrots. For protein, have milk instead of soda, or try a fruit and yogurt parfait for dessert. Or go for a veggie pizza (there's protein in the cheese)!
